Pune is the intellectual hub of India. Named Oxford of the
East by late Indian Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru, Pune has many
institutes providing world class education. Its reputation
educational and research node grew with the establishment of Pune
University on February 10, 1948. Today the university has 46
graduate departments, 269 affiliated colleges, 118 research
institutes with enrollment of 1,70,000 students. Some of the reputed
institutes include, National Defense Academy(NDA), National Chemical
Laboratory and Film and Television Institute of India, along with
many other world wide renowned colleges. Pune is the center for
learning high class engineering and management courses. It is
becoming a center for Information and Technology (IT) in India.
